IT'S A BOY!!!

On Thursday 01/27/11 we had an appointment with our midwife, Kat. Although everything looked good she felt that due to the blood pressure problems I had had for the past 3 weeks it would be best to go ahead and induce labor before one of us developed complications or got sick. We scheduled an induction for Sunday morning. On my way home from the appointment I had a long talk with the baby. I asked him or her to please come on their own before Sunday if they were ready and promised that daddy and I would be there waiting for them.

Friday morning at 1:30 a.m. I woke up having contractions! :) After a few contractions I decided to try a bath. Marq & Chevy went back to sleep for a little while while Koda sat next to the tub watching over me, he doesn't leave my side when I'm in the tub, it's adorable. After an hour or so I decided this was the real thing, the contractions weren't very far apart so we started to time them. They were consistently 4 minutes apart for nearly 2 hours so we called our midwife at around 4:30 a.m. to let her know that I was in labor and we were headed to the hospital.

We made it to the hospital about 5:30 a.m. and I was put in triage to be assessed. The nurse called my midwife and it was decided that they would run some tests due to my blood pressure. The contractions were getting stronger and they were still only 4 minutes apart. The nurse said that they do not usually admit patients at 2 cm but Kat had agreed to admit me if I wanted. She recommended I go home to eat breakfast, get hydrated and try to get some rest before being admitted. Marq & I had now been up all night and hadn't eaten in over 12 hours. I took their advice and went home around 9:30 a.m.

Marq made us some breakfast and we laid in bed trying to rest. I was able to relax and even dose off a little bit between contractions and Marq got a couple hours of little sleep. After a few hours of resting I got up and moved around the house a little bit and Marq did some cleaning. Finally at about 4 p.m. I was in a lot of pain so we decided to head back to the hospital. When we left the house Marq asked me if I wanted to try walking, I really didn't but I knew it was probably a good idea to get things moving along. We went over to the park by our house and walked two laps, stopping every 4 minutes for contractions.
We arrived back at the hospital at about 5:30 p.m. and the anesthesiologist arrived just before 7 o'clock (shift change) to administer an epidural. He had me sit on the edge of the bed and lean over the bed tray, Marq stood on the other side and held my hands. I had a very hard time holding still as he prepped me and then gave me the epidural, I was very tense and jumpy. As soon as the epidural was in and the Dr. was finishing up, he looked at Marq and said "You look pale, do you feel okay?" I looked at Marq and he did look pale but he said he felt fine. A few seconds later his eyes rolled back and he slowly started to fall backwards, the nurse did a great job of breaking his fall so that he didn't hit his head on the cabinets behind him.

After a few more hours of labor, the show was about to begin at about 11 p.m. Everyone left the room except Marq & Tahna (and the nurse and my midwife). After two hours of pushing, my midwife decided to call in a Dr. with extensive training in forceps delivery. He arrived at about 2 a.m. and after 3 hours of pushing the baby arrived safe & sound at 2:16 a.m. Marq said "It's a Boy" and I looked up at him and said "It is?" I guess I really expected it to be a girl. Marq & I welcomed our new baby boy into the world on Saturday 01/29/11 at 2:16am.

Our baby boy weighed 7 lbs 1 oz and measured 20 inches long and we were both thrilled to meet our little guy!!! Welcome to the world baby :)
